My trip to the Massage Company, Putney - gifted, babes!

A couple of months ago, I got the email everyone hopes to receive: would I like a free massage?

Yes, yes I would.

The lovely people at The Massage Company were offering a free massage session, in exchange for an (honest) review. Well, I had the massage, so here’s the (honest) review:

I loved it.

I arrived, a tad sweaty and harried, for my appointment (The Massage Company have 5 spots open surrounding London, and as I was doing some freelance work for a company based in Victoria I opted for their Putney location). Greeted by an ombré wall (which, it has to be said, were in Enthusiast brand colours, though I can neither confirm nor deny whether this was particularly in honour of me), I was taken through the disclaimer & consultation form by the very helpful man at the front desk — who clearly loved what he did, and couldn’t wait for me to see for myself why — before being introduced to my therapist, Emma.

Emma led me through to the treatment room, which was lit with soft, low light and had a calming soundtrack. After discussing my problem areas - the classic post-pandemic pre-Gen Z “well I live my life on a laptop and have a goblin’s posture, so do with my neck and shoulders what you will” - and getting undressed, it was time to begin (as part of ensuring I was comfy and protected, Emma did this kind of swaddle-swoop thing with my legs and the sheet on the massage bed, which I can only guess is exactly how babies are transported by a stork, 10/10 would go again).

The massage itself, was, of course, wonderful - otherwise I wouldn’t have catfished you with the complimentary preamble here. If you’re feeling stressed, tense, or perhaps feel like you’re making an enemy of your body, then a massage is always going to be an excellent choice to ease those symptoms.

However, what I think is particularly genius and worth mentioning is The Massage Company’s subscription model, which allows you to pay for a monthly massage. Every time I get a massage, I vow to commit to them more regularly; every time, I forget, and hobble back sheepish and broken a year later. A monthly subscription solves that problem by prompting you to take that time and make that space every 4 weeks: it’s so brilliant, in fact, that I can’t believe it hasn’t been thought of sooner (The Massage Company are the first to do it in England, I believe!)

Thanks so much to The Massage Company for this gifted treatment! Check them out at massagecompany.co.uk
