With a name like Hedges, you've got to have green fingers, haven't you? Elise Hedges of Hedges and Flowers Floral Design has green fingers, keen eyes and a huge bloody heart. Her floral design is flawless, with a just foraged feel and amazing colour palettes - she's as bright and bubbly as what she creates. She's also suuuuuper lovely, so I sat her down (metaphorically, sadly) to chat all things enthusiasm with her...
What are you enthusiastic about?
So for those who don’t already know me, HI my name is Elise, and I am a wedding florist. And for those who DO know me, they will know that I BLOODY LOVE what I do! I love flowers, I love couples, I love weddings, I just love love. The majority of what I do is inspired completely by the seasons and who the flowers are for. Nothing I do is the same, which makes for a very exciting (and sometimes stressful) job - but if I’m honest, I even quite like a little bit of stress otherwise life would be dull!
Why do you keep doing what you're doing?
When I get positive responses from my work, especially from brides, I cannot explain the feeling that it gives me. It makes every second, every decision and every design idea worth it.
What's the impact you want to make?
I know flowers are quite an easy thing to love, who can deny their beauty. But I really do want to make that WOW impact with everything I do, I want to show people things they haven’t necessarily seen before, or would've had in mind when they envisioned their own weddings. But aside from wedding flowers, I also really just want to share my enthusiasm with other people and show them that your passion CAN be your job, you just have to be determined and ready to take that leap.
Who is your enthusiastic hero?
Hmm.. I’m not sure I have a particular person, but for the last year or so, through my journey of running a small biz I have met SO many incredible small business owners who all share the same passion - they wanna make money from something they LOVE. I even met the Wedding Enthusiast babe (stooooop you'll make me bluuuuuuush) via one of those community groups and I just get such a buzz from people doing well in life.
If money were no object, what would you be doing?
Oh lord if money were no object.. I’ve always said that if I won the lottery, I’d definitely still work - because I just love it! But I think there’d definitely be some adventures in the mix too. I’m so inspired by nature, and particularly the coastline, so I’d love to spend some time near the ocean(s) - New Zealand, Australia, Italy and Mexico are to name but a few on my list…
